There is a very cool little app available for both Windows and Mac, called LICEcap. You can use it to select the chosen area on your screen and record a quick demo and save it as GIF.

I use it all the time to present my CSS animations or new UX interactions that simply can’t be described in words or shown on a static screenshot.
