This is the first The Essential Web Design Handbook Challenge!
If you’ve already purchased my ebook and had a chance to look at it, you know it’s full of very practical examples and information. I give you a complete solution plus guidance on how to design websites.
Now, I’d like to see the actual results and how my techniques helped you improve your design skills. I also want to get to know you better, learn more about your background and find out what your biggest design challenges are.
I know for many of you my handbook completely changed the way you do your design work. It doesn’t matter if this is going to be your first design project or you’re already an experienced designer. I want to hear all of your wonderful stories along with some real projects you’ve made.
How can you join?
- If you haven’t gotten your copy yet, go here to get The Essential Web Design Handbook.
- Log in to the Designers Area and click the design challenge banner right below the handbook download box.
- Fill out the form, attach your design files and send it by the end of April, 2015.
What will you get?
In this design challenge everyone wins.
In May, I’ll create a special page where I’ll list all the projects (best submissions will be featured at the top of the page) including your name, a link to your website and your story. It’s a great way to get featured and become more recognizable as a designer.
Also, I’ll personally follow up on your projects to leave feedback on your designs and answer your questions.
I’m very excited to see how this will turn out and can’t wait to get to know all of you better. Let’s do some real design work!
Note: The submission form will accept only PNG and JPG files. I don’t need you to send me your PSD files. Preview files will be enough for me to give you some design feedback.

Hi Rafal
That sounds awesome 🙂
When I go to the form page all I see is the text “Thank you for filling out the form! ”
And I haven´t filled out anything yet.
How can I submit my work?
Rafal Tomal says
Sorry about that! This should be fixed now 🙂

Hi Rafal,
Your idea of creating a special page for designers’ projects is really attractive. I’m making my own first project following your guides in the ebook, which are really of great help to me.
By the way, I’d like to ask that should the work submitted include the whole webpage set (i.e home page, about page, contact, blog post, etc.) or can be the home page only? Could you be more specific about this?
Thanks so much for your great guidance.
Rafal Tomal says
Hi Jocelyn!
I’m glad to hear that you found my ebook helpful.
Your submission should include only the home page. Click the “Take the challenge” button in the Designers Area for more info.

I have a quick question. I´m working on a design and I only have skisses on paper and a mockup design. I want to enter the contest but I don´t really have a wireframe to show. I got a bit stressed with the deadline appearing.
So is it alright if I place some scans of how I imagined it on paper as my “wireframe”?
Rafal Tomal says
Henrik,
That’s totally fine! Thank you for submitting your project. I’ll get back to you with some comments and feedback soon 🙂
Anjana Parghi says
There is no “Take the challenge” button in the Designers Area.
Rafal Tomal says
Anjana,
The design challenge is only for people who bought The Essential Web Design Handbook (http://rafaltomal.com/ebook).
